Indonesia is a troubled paradise – its infrastructure is still struggling to recover from 2004’s tsunami, and it has the highest child and maternal mortality rate in south-east Asia. Every year 115,000 babies die before reaching their first birthday.
A mother in Indonesia is 84 times more likely to die during childbirth than a mother in the UK.
Almost a third of babies are born without a trained health worker in attendance.
